in around 1700 germans fled from there homes to america in search of easier and better life unlike most immigrants in search of political and religious freedom. some were pushed because of wars that broke out between different countries. Most german immigrants fled to minnesota and a few to pennsylvania to stay away from big cities and the waves of other immigrants that settled mostly in states like new york which were much more packed with people. in 1709 about 15,000 germans left Britain for britain and about 3,000 crossed the atlantic to america. In 1745, about 45,000 germans were living in pennsylvania alone. After the 1800s germans were still pouring into the United States. The modernization in german pushed many to america. In 1870 germans made up more than a third of the agricultural population. In the later 1800s germans started settling in all of the states. Most went to the west coast to farm where there was much more open space.
